Basic gardening tip for pruning, be brave

I have a friend who loves her bougainvillea's, but never likes to prune them. I have been singing the same song to her for years.

"You need to prune", but to no avail, until recently when I visited to find much to my surprise she had finally pruned them and what's more she was a convert.  They were in a full flush of flowers and very bushy instead of the usually lanky plants of the past.

Pruning is one of those gardening jobs that causes many a heart ache for new gardens.  Just because a plant looks nice now, doesn't mean it will in another month, that's why you need to prune, all plants benefit from it and reward you with a beautiful lush plant.

Gary and I spent yesterday pruning back our Murraya and Razzle Dazzle bushes, because although to the untrained eye they looked perfectly alright, to ensure a lovely display of flowers during the summer it was important to prune now.

So off you go get those pruning shears out and head to the garden there is probably a plant just waiting for a short back and side.

Happy gardening

Bronwyn
